On the last day of class, we played our game using two decks of cards designed by students and produced by Make Playing Cards. We chose to get the cards produced in tarot card size in order to accommodate the amount of text some of them contain.
Here is student feedback on the experience of playing the game for the first time:
1. The Most Likely cards work best when they are more general. The really specific ones are too limited in the response cards they solicit. (I.e., "Most likely to end in a rhyming couplet" was tough to work with.)
2. Some of the text-subgenre-author cards have too much text on them. Avoid long summaries of works and instead make it succinct. Avoid smaller font size.
3. All agree that you can play this game and learn about literary genre, and that you don't necessarily need to know about those genres beforehand in order to play the game effectively.
4. In the future, it might be nice to have one card (not a playing card but a sort of background card) produced for each subgenre that introduces it or introduces players to its features in a coherent way.
5. It can help to have the text cards refer somewhat explicitly to its genre rather than focus on plot summary, since that helps players understand its genre features.
6. Proofread your cards carefully! At least 3 different times!
7. All are satisfied with size, design, and visual appearance of cards.
